What are the Canada Disability Benefit and CPP disability payment dates for 2026?

Every 2026 payment date for the Canada Disability Benefit (third Thursday) and CPP disability, plus what to do if a payment is late or missing.

Am I eligible?

The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is paid on the third Thursday of each month. Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability payments arrive late in the month on a separate schedule. This guide lists every 2026 date for both programs, explains how each payment works and covers what to check when money does not show up. Dates and rules come from Service Canada and were checked on October 22, 2026.

What are the Canada Disability Benefit and CPP disability payment dates for 2026?

The CDB is paid on the third Thursday of each month, while CPP disability payments follow the Canada Pension Plan schedule, which falls late in the month. The table gives each 2026 date from Service Canada’s benefits calendar. A payment can take a few days to arrive after the date listed.

Service Canada’s calendar listed 2025 and 2026 dates only when it was checked on October 22, 2026, so 2027 dates were not yet posted. For the CDB you can work out a future date from the third-Thursday rule, but the official list is the reference to trust once it is published.

Payments are issued on the listed dates but may take a few days to arrive, and a posted cheque takes longer than direct deposit. Service Canada asks you to wait 5 to 10 business days before contacting the program about a missing payment.

When does the Canada Disability Benefit pay out each month?

Service Canada sends the CDB on the third Thursday of every month. If you qualify, your first payment arrives the month after your application is approved. The last three 2026 dates are October 15, November 19 and December 17. You can be paid by direct deposit or by cheque.

The maximum for July 2026 to June 2027 is $204.20 a month, based on your 2025 tax return. When the total for a July-to-June period works out to $240 or less, about $20 a month, you receive one lump sum on your next scheduled date instead of monthly payments.

A one-time $150 supplemental payment helps offset the cost of getting a Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate. Service Canada began paying it in fall 2026, as a lump sum, for each approved DTC certificate that qualifies you for monthly CDB payments. People who received a CDB payment before September 2026 remain eligible even if their payments have stopped, and nobody has to apply.

CDB payments are not taxable and come with no tax slip, but you must keep filing your income tax return, and so must your spouse or common-law partner if you have one. Every June, Service Canada sends a letter confirming whether you still qualify and what you will receive. Our Canada Disability Benefit guide covers eligibility and the application steps.

When are CPP disability benefits paid each month?

CPP disability benefits are paid monthly by direct deposit on the dates in the table, late in the month. If you receive cheques instead, they are mailed during the last three business days of each month. Your decision letter states the date and amount of your first payment.

Old Age Security payments fall on the same 2026 dates, so a deposit on those days may come from either program. Service Canada lists the CPP retirement pension, the disability benefit, the children’s benefit and the survivor pension together on one schedule.

A CPP disability benefit starts 4 months after your disability is found to be severe and prolonged. You may receive up to 11 months of payments retroactively from the date Service Canada received your application. Our CPP disability guide and our article on how hard it is to get CPP disability explain who qualifies.

Unlike the CDB, CPP disability payments are taxable income, and tax is not withheld unless you ask. You can request monthly tax deductions from Service Canada to avoid owing at filing time. If you worked in Quebec, your disability pension comes from the Quebec Pension Plan through Retraite Québec, which has its own schedule, so the CPP dates here do not apply to it.

What is the difference between the Canada Disability Benefit and CPP disability?

The CDB is an income-tested monthly benefit for adults aged 18 to 64 with an approved Disability Tax Credit certificate, up to $204.20 a month. CPP disability is a contribution-based pension for people who can no longer work regularly. You can receive both, because Service Canada’s own example shows it.

Service Canada’s example is a couple in their early 60s. One partner receives $15,000 in CPP disability benefits, and that counts toward the couple’s adjusted family net income. They still each receive $137.50 a month from the CDB, so receiving CPP disability does not shut you out of the CDB. It can shrink the payment.

What should you do if a payment has not arrived?

Wait 5 to 10 business days after the listed date before contacting Service Canada, since payments can take a few days and cheques are slower. If the delay continues, check that your address and banking details are current and look for any letter asking you for information.

SituationWhat to check
You changed bank accountsKeep the old account open until a payment lands in the new one, which can take up to a month. If Service Canada cannot deposit a CDB payment, it mails a cheque.
You moved or your marital status changedTell Service Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency. A missed change of address, bank account or marital status can stop or change CDB payments.
You did not answer a letterCDB payments can stop if you do not respond to a letter from Service Canada about your situation.
A tax return is missingThe CDB needs your return, and your spouse’s if applicable, filed each year. File it, then contact Service Canada.
Your family income changedThe CDB amount follows your adjusted family net income, so the payment can go up, go down or stop.

How do these payments relate to the Disability Tax Credit and the RDSP?

The CDB requires an approved Disability Tax Credit certificate, so the DTC unlocks it. Money received from a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is subtracted when Service Canada calculates adjusted family net income, so it does not lower the CDB. CPP disability payments do count as income.

That makes the T2201 certificate the first step for most people who are not yet receiving the CDB. Our T2201 form guide walks through the certificate, and how the DTC affects other government benefits shows what else it opens. Frequently asked questions about disability payment dates

What day is the Canada Disability Benefit paid?

Service Canada pays the Canada Disability Benefit on the third Thursday of each month. The last three 2026 payment dates are October 15, November 19 and December 17. If you qualify, your first payment arrives the month after your application is approved, by direct deposit or by cheque.

When is the next CPP disability payment?

CPP disability payments follow the Canada Pension Plan schedule. The last three 2026 dates are October 28, November 26 and December 22. Cheques are mailed during the last three business days of each month, and your decision letter states the date of your first payment.

Is the Canada Disability Benefit taxable?

No. Canada Disability Benefit payments are not taxable, you do not report them as income, and Service Canada issues no tax slips for them. You still need to file your income tax return every year, because the benefit depends on your adjusted family net income and filing keeps you eligible.

Are CPP disability payments taxable?

Yes, CPP disability payments count as taxable income. Taxes are not automatically deducted from them, so you can ask Service Canada to withhold tax from each payment to avoid a bill when you file. Service Canada also lets you download your tax slips online.

Can you receive the CDB and CPP disability together?

Yes. Service Canada’s own example shows a person receiving CPP disability benefits who also gets the Canada Disability Benefit. The CPP disability amount counts as income when the CDB is calculated, so a higher CPP amount can lower your CDB payment, sometimes to zero.

What is the $150 Canada Disability Benefit supplemental payment?

It is a one-time $150 lump sum that helps cover the cost of getting your Disability Tax Credit certificate. Service Canada pays it starting in fall 2026 for each approved certificate that qualifies you for monthly CDB payments. People paid before September 2026 remain eligible even if their payments stopped, and you do not need to apply.
